Nowadays in a world as interconnected as the one in which we live, education has become a key to open all the doors for our future. More and more students are choosing to move abroad to pursue their academic dreams and maybe enter top universities.
Despite that, this decision is not just about academics; it’s about breaking our comfort bubble to step into a big world full of opportunities, gaining life experiences, and preparing the path for our careers. But how do you choose the right university? And why should you consider studying abroad in the first place?
Just think about it for a second and one will see that it’s quite easy to find several points in favor of studying abroad; such as the fact it exposes students to a global perspective. Living and studying in a different country means becoming open-minded: one has to interact every day with diverse cultures, ideas,s, and viewpoints.
This could be a great exercise to manage complex situations and different challenges. Moreover, the connections you build with international students and professors often lead to lifelong friendships and professional networks. Imagine working on a research project with your ex-classmates from five different continents and how many solutions could you find to that problem, thanks to five different life experiences.
Personal growth is another cornerstone of the study abroad journey. Moving to a foreign country is difficult and has a lot of challenges, but overcoming them would mean building solid resilience and independence. Adapting to a new environment, learning a different custom, and having to manage your life while speaking your second language, pushes you out of your comfort zone. These experiences definitely shape your future self, making you more resourceful and confident.

What do I have to do?
The very first step is understanding one’s academic goals. Of course, this requires careful self-reflection, one has to deep dive into oneself to be able to answer the questions “What excites you? And what do you see yourself doing in the future?”. By understanding that you identify where you have to start. Thanks to Dreamando Oxford bootcamp I’ve learned to realize that the most important factor to consider is what truly lights up our eyes. Choosing a university shouldn’t be only based on the job we might do in the future, especially in a fast-moving society like ours. Instead, it should be about pursuing something we genuinely love; with this mindset, every decision we make will be a little block to building the right path for each one.
Once one has a clear idea of his goals, the next step is researching university rankings and specializations to find the best university for his aspirations; look into the faculty profiles to see what the school, and more specifically the course, offers. For example, it could be a good move to prioritize leaders universities in the topic one chooses.
Many top universities are equipped with innovative labs and rich libraries, and they help you find opportunities to collaborate with different big firms. These resources allow students to deepen their understanding of their field and gain practical skills.
Beyond academics, also the location plays a crucial role in shaping your experience. Are you looking for a city atmosphere, or do you prefer a quieter setting? Consider how the location satisfies your academic and personal needs.

My perspective
At the moment I’m attending high school, so I still haven’t tried the real experience of living for a long period abroad, I’ve just spent a maximum of two weeks consecutively in a different country. But what I learned from my little experience is that even though it’s not always easy and without its hurdles: there are financial considerations, cultural adaptation, and family factors. There are so many things we can learn from an experience like this one, that everything could be played off for a moment to focus on our future.
In conclusion
Dreaming big and studying abroad is not just about achieving academic excellence, It’s about becoming a well-rounded person who is ready to face the world’s challenges. Just take a look at those people who made it, they taught us that the journey could be difficult, but the rewards far outweigh the obstacles.
